Sumac Balouchi Kilim Afghani Rug

This warm rug is a handwoven kilim rug. The style of rug is Sumac and is made by the Balouchi clan.  The Balouchi clan resides between the borders of Iran and Afghanistan. These traditional rugs are 100% wool and the dyes used are 100% natural, no chemicals what-so-ever are used as the dyes are extracted using spices, natural stones and fruit, for example the orange shade is extracted from saffron, the reds are extracted from pomegranates.

These rugs are flexible and extremely hard wearing. We have no doubt you will cherish this rug for life. The colours are warm and the shades are maroon, navy, red and cream, the pattern is a repeating tribal pattern. The weave is extremely tight making this exceptionally hard wearing. These balouchi rugs are made mostly by the females of the tribe and it is evident that these ladies are highly skilled. Each rug takes approximately 6 to 8 months to weave. The rug size is 220 x 148cm. Rugs from Afghanistan and Iran are usually identified by the region where it is made and by the family or clan who produced the rug.
