Large Kilim Rug – Handmade – Boho Style Area Rug

This large traditional handmade Tribal Kilim Rug originates from Afghanistan. These traditional rugs are 100% wool and the dyes used are 100% natural, no chemicals what-so-ever are used as the dyes are extracted using spices, natural stones and fruit, for example the yellow shade is extracted from saffron, the reds are extracted from pomegranates.

These rugs are flexible and extremely hard wearing. The colours are warm and the shades are white, jade, aqua blue, turquoise, red, navy and jade, the pattern is a repeating tribal pattern. The weave is extremely tight making this exceptionally hard wearing. These traditional rugs are made mostly by the females of the tribe. Each rug takes approximately eight to 10 months to weave. The rug size is 300cm x 210cm. Rugs from Afghanistan and Iran are usually identified by the region and by the family or clan who produced the rug.
