This beauty is a handwoven kilim Herati Balouchi Area Rug. The term Herati refers to Herat, which is the capital of the Herat Province and is located south of the Paropamisus Mountains in Western Afghanistan. Balouchi rugs sometimes referred to as Belouch or Belouchi are hand-woven using the traditional kilim and are produced by the semi nomadic tribe that resides on the borders of Iran and Afghanistan. These traditional rugs are 100% wool and the dyes used are 100% natural, for example the orange colour is extracted from saffron, the reds are extracted from pomegranates. These rugs are flexible and extremely hard wearing. We have no doubt you will cherish this rug for life. The colours are vibrant and the weave is extremely tight making this exceptionally hard wearing. The colours used in this kilim rug are midnight blues, saffron, brown, white, red and cream. These balouchi rugs are made mostly by the females of the tribe and it is evident that these ladies are highly skilled. Each rug takes approximately 6 to 8 months to weave.
