This beauty is a handwoven kilim Herati Sumac Balouchi Area Rug. These rugs are made by the Baluch clan and is hand-woven using the traditional kilim. The Balouchi clan resides on the borders of Iran and Afghanistan. These traditional rugs are 100% wool and the dyes used are 100% natural no chemicals what-so-ever are used as the dyes are extracted using spices, natural stones and fruit, for example the orange shade is extracted from saffron, the reds are extracted from pomegranates. These rugs are flexible and extremely hard wearing. We have no doubt you will cherish this rug for life. The colours are vibrant and the weave is extremely tight making this exceptionally hard wearing. The colours used in this kilim rug are midnight blues, saffron, brown, white, red and cream. These balouchi rugs are made mostly by the females of the tribe and it is evident that these ladies are highly skilled. Each rug takes approximately 6 to 8 months to weave. The rug size is 218 x 149cm. Rugs from Afghanistan and Iran are usually identified by the region it is made and by the family or clan who produced the rug.
