Afghani Rug – Shirvan

This wonderfully vibrant rug is handmade in Afghanistan. The colours are various shades of pink, lilac, maroon, yellow and cream with a tassel finish. This distintive large rug will add warmth to any room. This rug is made from 100% Wool. The pattern is diamond in shape, the repeated borders are various shades of light pink, lilac and purple. This is a magnificent example of Mashwani Kilim work. This rug is made by the Mashwani clan which are still semi-nomadic and live near the border between Iran and Afghanistan. These special kilim rugs are produced mostly by the women of this clan. It is evident that the creator of this rug is highly skilled and a true artist. This wonderful rug takes approximately 8 months to produce.  Afghani rugs are considered some of the best quality in the world and are known for their intricate designs, bold patterns and use of natural dyes. These patterns used are geometric tribal designs. The dyes used are 100% natural, no chemicals what-so-ever are used. The wool used is normally taken from the belly of the sheep when sheared, as only the softest wool is used. The size of this rug is 300cm x 400cm.
